Video iPod + radio help please?

I bought 2 new video iPods in the Apple store in Florida 3 weeks ago. They both worked well and all was fine until I bought a radio remote in Woolies in the UK.
When I plug the remote into either of the iPods, it's as if the power immediately drains. The iPod screen fades quickly and the thing turns off. The only way I can get it on again is unplug the radio, and put the iPod back onto the dock or plug the usb charger in for a few seconds. (Obviously don't get the radio on at all. )
Phoned Apple who thought the radio was faulty and they sent out a new one. It's just arrived and it does the same thing. I thought it was definately the radio that was at fault because of the fact I had bought 2 ipods ( 1 black, 1 white - so I assumed different batches) and they were both the same but now I'm beginning to wonder.
Apple are sending out another new one but I'm not convinced this will work either now. Anyone heard of any incompatability issue with certain video ipods? I don't want to return my new ipods as they work well by themselves and I don't like the way Apple tend to send out refurbs as replacements.
Not sure what to do tbh. I'm not overly fussed about the radio but the original packaging has been binned so it's not like I can take it back to Woolies for a refund , especially since I'm not even certain it is actually faulty...it might be my ipods.
Any suggestions or anyone had a similar thing? I'm down £25 for nowt.

It will drain your battery quicker but not that quick! My iTrip uses the double the amount of battery as its sending out a FM signal but I still get 7 hours worth of music with it attached.
Try asking here, somebody might of had the same problem...
