New MOT Rules - Is this a failure?
I have a Mondeo Diesel with a dodgy turbo actuator. Most of the time when the car starts the glow plug light flashes and the car goes into limp mode. After a few consecutive tries the engine light also come on.
After a few miles down the road an engine re-start will clear the issue. I have had this problem for over a year (not worth the cost of repair) have managed to happily continue using it and last November as confirmed by the diesel specialist that this is not an MOT failure, it passed the MOT without a problem.
I know that the MOT rules have been tightened since so wanted to find out if this fault is still ok or having flasing glow plug light and/or engine light is now a failure?
Cheers

No - it is not deemed a warning light.0

But it may fail the emission test with no turbo boost and extra unused fuel.
Its not that hard to fix. Are the vanes sticking or is it the actuator?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Is it the 2.0 PSA engine?0

I don't know about a glow plug light but the engine management warning light is not part of the MOT.VOSA wrote:I can confirm that the Engine Management Light isn't part of the MOT test. A vehicle will not fail the MOT test if this light is or isn't illuminated.
That was a reply in response to a query I made, as my car has had a tuned ECU fitted which means the EML isn't functional at all. And to confirm, it passed its MOT last week with no advisories.0 -

It is the 2.0 TDCI... overall the car having done 84k has become unreliable. Seems to be par of the course for a Mondeo.

I had a similar fault with a 2.0 HDi (same engine I think), was about 7 hours labour to change the sensor and only ran right for about 12 months after, before the turbo was on it's last legs.
The symptoms with mine was the boost was sometimes releasing too early causing a slight judder. Have they checked the EGR valve?
I went back to petrol after I got rid of it and haven't regretted it once.0 -
Its not always par for the course because mines done nearly double that.
Is it a euro 4 car with the electronic actuator? P132A or P132B fault code?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I cleaned the EGR originally when the problems started but made no differenceforgotmyname wrote: »Its not always par for the course because mines done nearly double that.

It is the euro 4 electronic actuator. Had diagnostics done by diesel specialist. Diagnosed the actuator as a problem and over a grand to replace turbo. Fault code is P2263-Boost Pressure control0
