Apple ID

I'm buying my son an iPad for Christmas. In preparation I wanted to set up an Apple ID for him so I used his current email address to set it up.

I came to submit the application but it said that the email address was already in use. Very strange as I knew it wasn't! So I tried my fairly new email address and it said that was in use too.

Now, I do have an Apple ID myself, but could have sworn that it was an old email address. So I decided to set up a brand new email address and that too says it's in use! How can it be when I've only this minute set it up??

At this rate Apple are going to lose my custom and I'll go elsewhere! (Would rather not though as I don't have a clue how to use Android!)

How can three email addresses that have never been associated with Apple be in use??

Maybe try recovering the Apple ID associated with the original email?

Or if you are going to buy an iPad anyway, just buy it in store and get them to help you set up an Apple ID, the staff are very helpful in Apple Stores.

As my son already had an itunes account on my laptop I had to set up another user name on the laptop and switch to that when I set up my own itunes account for my ipad, maybe try that?
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I can't really help you with Apple stuff, but if the present should be a surprise, then I wouldn't use his email address... ;)

Edit: Ok, maybe one thought. Did you try another browser or another PC? Maybe there's something wrong at your end like popup, ad or cookie blocker.

Never thought of that! But I don't think he ever checks his emails, it was purely set of for him to go on Facebook. All the emails in there are notifications!

I tried using the forgot password route but the email to reset never arrives and when I try the other route of using the security questions it says his DOB is incorrect.

I don't have another PC, just my MacBook.

I think I shall go to the Apple Store to buy it. Was going to buy online as I've set up 2 iPhones and my iPad with no bother but given my issues I think the store maybe the best bet.

Thanks for all the replies :)
