Builders Using House

We are having a large kitchen extension built at the moment.
We have given access to house and facilities, (drinks, electric etc). Aren't we nice :D
Also, assured at quote stage builders do not work bare chested etc.
They have and my girlfriend found this out today, on an impromptu visit home. Also, we have provided plastic cups for drinks. Today found they are using our glasses, and washing up liquid for mortar. (I found this by the bricks on its side today, covered in sand)

Should we say something to the boss at meeting tomorrow?. We are unsure, because we still have lots of interior work to go, and these people will be working in our house still, while we are not here.

Appreciate we have made a small rod for our own back, but hate the thought of having p~~~ taken out of us.

Any thoughts welcome, good or bad.

its a hazard of having builders in your home.

I had builders that loved to spit. He would spit in joists and the sink. builders that cut our hose pipe to point brickwork, took our ladders, cable extensions, brushes, liquid for the work. Presented us with bills for new saws and tools and when we objects they sulked.

unless you can sit with them all the time, it will go on.

just make sure they dont steal anything and when they are gone it will be all over.

Washing up liquid in the mortar? I was always told that this is a no no as it weakens the mix and may cause efflorescence.

Then again, I'm not a builder.

I endured 7 months of tradesmen working on various aspects of my house refurbishment.

Before any work started I bought a paper plates, napkins, plastic cups, plastic spoons and forks, a cheap large kettle, 8 mugs and a couple of cheap, large trays from a poundshop. I also bought a separate box of tea bags and packets of sugar and every week I would buy a few large bottles of Coke. Those were for the tradesmen's use and served me well for 7 months at minimum expenditure to me.

Workmen were never allowed into the clean areas of the house unless it was absolutely necessary and there was someone overseeing what they were doing.

As others have said, you'll have to put up with some bad habits, discomfort and revulsion for a while!

Just try to grin and bear it.

  • TBH I'd be more worried about the standard of work, it was 29d in london today, if it is the same where you are & they are working outside really what does it matter if some of them aren't wearing shirts, agree that they shouldn't be using your glasses, washing up liquid shouldn't be used as GD said it should be febmix, but then of course fairy is so much cheaper & i've never seen a house fall down yet from using it
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
