So if the incentives still require DDs to be paid once switched, you have to manually transfer to the dummy accounts say 2 DDs then the switching service can transfer/close that account :D.
Indeed, that's exactly what I did for the Halifax offer.
  • The reason I asked about switching was twofold:
    1) Topcashback pays £45.45 for doing it, which you know, would be kinda nice!
    2) They move all your D/Ds for you which does save a lot of hassle I think.

Even if I had to manually move two D/Ds back to Halifax it's less trouble. Obviously I want to keep a couple on Halifax that Santander won't pay cashback on.

But it sounds like the setup you've got is exactly what I'm aiming for. :) Maybe if my application is well in process before the 16th Sept there'd be no forced account closure. Hmm, better make a quick decision.

You are in the exact same position I was in back in mid-august. I wanted to take advantage of the exact same topcashback £45.45 offer but keep my existing Halifax reward for the £5 bonus.

You've stated the answer already, use the topcashback link -> open the santander 123 account and say you want to switch using their switching service (I believe you have to do it at this point for the cashback offer to work) -> wait until santander have confirmed the switch is complete -> move the DDs back to Halifax -> Job's a good'un.

The downside is that you need 2DDs for both the santander and halifax account, so just make sure you've got a total of at least 4DDs to play around with/create.

Be aware though that santander seem to take a while to do the switch, I applied on the 15th Aug and still waiting for the switch to be completed.

I've read a thread listing charities which would accept small amounts as direct debits, some as low as £1.Set up two of those.

Could someone post the link for that thread please

I'm currently switching from Halifax to Santander and so far everything is ok, TCB tracked and is confirmed already.
Once its complete will switch 2 non cashback paying dd back to Halifax to keep them happy.

The only thing I don't really like with Santander is they don't give you an instant decision, after opening my 123 account I then applied for the 123 credit card (£15 tcb ;)) and at the end just got a thank you for applying screen & a ref number. Next day it just showed up on my online banking with no email confirmation or anything.
