Ive just had my contract terminated and I have been given a months notice (paid) until 30 Sept to find another job. Im under the impression I can't claim anything or go to Job Centre until Oct 1st when my employment runs out? Is this true? CAB seem to think I can go and sign on now??
Any advice greatly rec'd

Go and see them now, they will sort you out. If you go now ish, there may be a job there so you don't even need to sign on at all.
Good luck with yur job hunting.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Obviously, you wont get any money in September, you are already being paid for it in your notice pay.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

That's incorrect. The rules changed sometime around 2007 so if you're getting PILON you can claim and receive JSA payments. I know that I did earlier this year, and so did all of my colleagues.0 -

Well, if you are being paid from work and paid from the state, its no bluddy wonder the country is in the state its in.
Do you think it's morally right to take this money then.
I despair sometimes, I really despair of this country and the way its going.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Are you a) actually working that months notice, or been given 'gardening leave' for the month (i.e. told to stay at home but still employed and paid by the company) ?
Or have you b) been given a payment in lieu of notice (PILON) and actually left your employer ?
If the former (a) , then I don't believe you can sign on yet as you are still employed, but if the latter (b) you are no longer employed and can0 -
My husband is in the same boat. He's on garden leave but redundant at the end of the this month. He hasn't signed on yet as he is still being paid in lieu of notice and won't receive his redundancy package until the end of the month.
Depends on your final date of employment.0 -

I don't make the rules.
I have to say that I fully expected to be told that they wouldn't pay for my period of notice but they did so because I was entitled.0
