Bon Marche vouchers - check first!

Options
If you're planning to give/send someone a paper gift voucher for Bon Marche, check first that they have a branch near them. I was given a voucher last month, my local store has been closed down and I don't have another one anywhere within a sensible distance that won't cost me a fair amount to travel to on a special trip. I called their Customer Service dept and was told that they don't accept vouchers online (e.g. with the code number), I can't send it in for any kind of refund and my options are to sell it/give it away to someone who can get to a store, keep it with me "for when you are travelling" in case I happen to end up near a branch, or waste it.

It's better to just not bother with gift vouchers. There's little protection for consumers, just ask the many people who have lost money this way over the last few years.
