Debt Assigned

Heya,
Back in 2009 as a student I got into some debt problems. The student union helped and set up agreements with respective creditors and I have ensured these payments have been made every month. Today i've checked my credit file and it says one with Lloyds has been settled with the status debt assigned. This was in June. Since then I have continued to make the payments and wondering if I should stop? I moved house a couple of years ago and therefore if they have tried to contact me it probably wouldn't have made it to me as I maybe stupidly I did not update my address with them - I did not want to draw attention to myself as I was being constantly hounded. There are no new agreements set up on file. Any advice gratefully received.

If the debt has been assigned, then you no longer owe Lloyds, but oew instead whoever has purchased.
I would certainly stop payments to Lloyds until you know the position.
May be best to ask Lloyds who now has the debt? Although sometimes they cannot easily say.....

Hi Fermi,
Thanks for your reply - I was thinking of cancelling the standing order as it is not showing against the debt anymore. I know I haven't updated my address details with Lloyds however a simple credit search should find me at my current address? I'm loathe to keep paying however at same time I don't want the hounding to start again as I have paid the agreed amount for 4 years now... it is a tricky one....could the previous company be forwarding on my payments?0 -
Suppose it's possible, but I would not like to risk or depend on it.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
