Amazon 1p book sales - How do they make money on these?

Just that, really. I know any profit would be on the postage so you would receive £2.80 plus the 1p for the book, but Amazon fees would take any profit away surely?

I wondered if buying boxes of books from places like jumble sales for, say, 10p a book would be worth it. With enough orders and an Amazon Pro account (at £25 a month) would it be worth it? Then again, finding the space to store hundreds of books may be a problem.

Thanks

Large sellers probably receive hefty discounts from Royal Mail by sending in bulk.

If the books will sell, it may be worth it, but popular books are already flooded on Amazon, so you're unlikely to sell many. Less popular books will obviously sell fewer copies.

Probably a £1 or so profit in the postage.

Profit is in the postage, but it only works with small books that can go as a large letter.

You'll still find some that get carried away undercutting on larger books and simply don't earn a profit after postage.
Some sellers (of books especially) do earn money on the leaflets they put in with them, so a bit extra for some.

Also, when it comes to small sellers, I've found they use their employer's mail system, so they make their cash pocketing the postage allowance!

In the past, I've received an Amazon item posted at an NHS Trust hospital's expense and another posted at the expense of a local Council! :(
