House Insurance No Claims Discount (NCD)...

Hi all,

I am looking to rent current home and buy a new home.

We have the maximum NCD accrued on our existing home and contents policy.

I would need home and contents insurance on the new home and some sort of insurance on the rented property.

Therefore I have some questions about the NCD...

1. Is it best to take the NCD to the new home?
2. Can I convert my current Aviva home insurance policy to a landlord insurance?
3. Do landlord insurance policies benefit from NCDs?
4. Is the residential NCD transferrable to a landlord insurance policy?

Thanks

    Hi gadgetboy00

Thanks for your post. If your policy is with Aviva Direct, we can amend the details for you to show the house as being rented. This means we are just amending the policy rather than starting a new one. With regards to your questions, below are the answers:

    1. You can either keep the NCD with the rented house or take it to the new one. That's your choice; however please let us know if you'd like us to quote you some prices for this.

    2. You can convert your current policy to a rented property insurance policy. We can amend it for you.

    3. The rented house would still benefit from earning NCD.

    4. We can keep your residential NCD on the existing policy if you wish, meaning you would still be able to use it on the rented property.

I hope this helps but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to email me at social@aviva.co.uk

    Kind Regards

  • No Claims Discount, as something distinctly separate to your claims history, is not well developed for Home insurance and even less so for Landlord.

With most insurers you will simply declare how many years you have been claim free, if Aviva do have a concept of NCD for Landlords it may well be adventagious to convert the existing NCD to the landlord policy as other insurers will still recognise your lack of claim on your home insurance.
