Barclaycard Credit Card Advice

Wondered if anybody could possibly help or give me some advice?!
I recently contacted Barclaycard to ask them if they could send me out a copy of the credit agreement for my account under sections 77−79 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 so I could have a look as to whether I was entitled to any PPI repayment. I opened up my Barclaycard back in 1999. The letter template i took from the PPI section of this website. (i can't put a link as I've only just signed up to this website and it won't allow me to).
From this request I received a letter from from Barclaycard stating the following:
We are currently unable to provide a copy of the credit agreement i entered into. We accept that we are therefore prevented from enforcing our agreement with you while this state of affairs continues.
With immediate effect we have suspended your Barclaycard account. We have taken this action because in our view there is a significantly increased risk that you will cease to make payments. This is a temporary measure which will be kept under review. We have not closed your account.
Notwithstanding that we cannot currently enforce the agreement, our rights continue to exist under the agreement. You should therefore continue to pay the debt that has accrued on your account.
The letter does go on but the above is the main part I am completely confused about.
I have of course contacted Barclaycard since I received the letter and my first contact lady told me that she couldn't work out why the letter had been sent and she would assume that because the account was opened in 1999 then no terms were signed. She said I would have to wait for the account to be reviewed but there was no timescale on this.
I have today again contacted Barclaycard because I have had no contact from them apart from a monthly statement which says my card has been cancelled. On speaking to Barclaycard today they have informed me that my account has been closed because I haven't used it for a length of time and i was indeed notified of this decision by a letter (which I have not received). I have asked them to reissue this letter.
I am receiving different information each time I contact the call centre and being put on hold for people to come back and not really know what has happened to my account.
Can anybody give me any advice if there is anything I can do. I am not too fussed that I don't have the credit card there to use but the fact that the account was so abruptly closed following a request for Sections 77-79 and then the suspension of my account and then closure of it without any notification. On asking whether i was entitled to any PPI i was immediately told a straight no.
Any advice would be greatly received. I will be contacting Barclaycard again but probably by letter once I have received the reissue of the letter stating that the account has been closed.
Thank you to anyone that can help me!

This probably comes from the fact that there was a time where people were getting out of debts by claiming they didn't sign up to the original contract, this is no longer the case as reconstituted copies are acceptable, but this only came in from the middle of the last decade.
Your enquiry obviously spooked them and they've closed he account.
Raise this as a formal complaint about the ppi, they then have eight weeks to respond, and you can then go to the regulator.0 -
I have faced the same situation. I received a letter from Barclaycard saying that I may have a valid claim re PPI. It was an unsolicited letter. I have a. Barclaycard credit card which I use regularly.
I sent the standard letter requesting a copy of my credit card agreement, and received a shocking reply. They sent me a two page letter telling me that they had suspended my credit card.
Surely that's a bit of an over reaction? I was simply responding to their letter.0
