Thanks. I have a Monthly Saver 1 on which the 2 year extention is due to mature next month.

To be fair, the rate changes on this account have been in line with base rate movements since SEP04. However, then there were few accounts paying a better rate. That is no longer the case today.
    Up Tipp!

i have issue 1 as well  , yep the account has held up well but thats mainly due to the "Rate include fixed bonus of 4.15%, payable if 12 standing order payments received & no more than one withdrawal per year"

my anniversary is due end of the month, i may get out of it and open a base rate tracker account with 100.00 instead, for sake of 0.50% gross interest

i found it staggering that dunfermline was unable to pass on the full 0.25% rise on the majority of its products

I just checked and noticed that Newcastle's rates have moved too recently

Regular Saver from 5.35% to 5.5%

I still don't know whether Ipswich BS put up their rates for the 'Target Saver' accounts (Mind you, it says 'correct' at 17th May which might mean they put up rates for some accounts only early rather than a delayed announcement for all accounts) Anyone know?

I am confused why anybody would consider any of the mentioned accounts, when there are currently much better paying accounts out there. E.g. Yorkshire BS Regular Saver is currently paying 7%. Is it just a case that people originally opened these accounts, when the rates were more competitive?
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

still extremely poor rates at newcastle, they seem more interested in buying other building societies up :j

bmw e-saver which is through newcastle BS pays 5.5% gross, has signaway so must be a membership account, wont allow deposits from newcastle account transfers though

    Possible motivations include :

    1) person already makes maximum permitted monthly deposits to other financial institution(s) paying higher rate

    2) person is 'carpet-bagging' with the lower-paying building society - hoping for free money in event of the society merging (or converting to a bank)

    3) person wants to retain membership with the building society - to avoid inconvenience of having to again prove iD + address in order, sometime in future, to open a competitive savings or mortgage account

more and more building societies are saying that ID needs to be reproved when opening a different savings account even when an open savings account is held with the society, im not sure if their is a standard period of time from the previous account opening when ID needsto be reproved. With more and more Building societies electronically validating ID many will revalidate ID without the saver being aware that their ID has been revalidated. Darlington Building society are esp stringent on the need to revalidate ID
