Morning
Is there a site where I can check the available speed of broadband for specific locations?
I am moving (in first quarter of 2014) to a remote location on the west coast of Scotland (Kintrye) where signals are notoriously iffy and, I'm sure, high speed bb is not yet available.
My current supplier is BT and I've been with them for about 15 years, am reluctant to move to a different supplier (email addresses etc) so would like to it out.
With high speed bb for rural communities being rolled out, albeit slowly, I want to maximise what I will have to start with and to ensure I can upgrade when and if things get better.
Many thanks.

Thanks - got 'up to 17mbs with estimated 2mbs'
still, it's better than I thought, and BT is available.
Great replies, thanks.0 -

Sorry to hijack this thread, have just undertaken a speedtest and its much lower - less than half of - the 20mbs its supposed to be. (Live in London so rurality is not the issue).
Before I complain to Virgin Media, I'd like to know whether its worth my while, or is there a standard disclaimer they churn out quoting average speeds, for example? Just need to be prepared to argue the case as this slow line is driving me nuts.

Have you any other devices connected to your router when you do the test? (such as TV, smartphones, tablets, etc)1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

Are you on cable or ADSL? You're more likely to get the full rated speed on cable. The speed of an ADSL connection depends on the distance to your exchange.0 -
The Uswitch speed test is not that accurate. I repeated the test and it varied from 53 to 63. I think your testing how slow their network is not yours.
The other tests and actual downloading speeds show 67+Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
if you are on Virgin cable, then it sounds like you are on an old package, as the 20mb version is no longer available.
have you tried different times of the day to see what speed you are getting ?
as there maybe some traffic shaping slowing it down at certain times0
