Is there a theoretical limit to rents?

    Thanks Percy:)

There's no reason to assume that the trend should or will continue. However, the OP extrapolated the 38 year trend out for another 22 years and gave some reasoning as to why this might be valid based on demographics and repair of lending markets.

You could have mentioned your revelation earlier direct to the OP but chose to make your (now aging) 'joke' about applying for a mortgage on a wet Wednesday at 17:22 so assume that you're not really that bothered about whether the extrapolation is valid.

Well yes the reply is aimed at the general conversation rather than yourself, you just posted the graph.

The other bit isn't a joke, ask Hamish, the only reason a got a mortgage at 90%ltv is nothing to do with my good income, spotless credit file and wanting to borrow only 60% of what they where willing to give me, it was all 100% pure luck due to rationing.

Did your girlfriend not help you getting that mortgage by clearing all of your debts for you so that you were debt free and then you sponged off her until you paid back the original debt?

Nationwide's long term real house price trend - since 1975.

If the average in 2007 was 4.1% , and the average in 2013 is 2.9%.

Then the trend is downwards, by 1.2% in 6 years already.

Doesn't support any argument in the next 20 years that there's a capacity for a "price boom". Given the unresolved issues that no one is currently talking about.

My wife has been looking for a while for a house to buy and I have decided to go half in with her, we are also expanding the area that we would buy in and also now considering 2 (as well as 3) bed houses.

I was considering buying some shares in Easyjet. Today Ryanair gave a profits warning as forward bookings aren't strong. Which impacted low cost carriers in general. Suggests that the European economy, of which the UK is a part, still has a bumpy road ahead.

Why be so childish and petty?

By the way she owns a 700k house in Hackney which she allows her mother to stay in rent free, and pays ALL the bills. What do you do for your mother?

    What's childish?

It's just an observation. You are a greedy man and so is your missus
