Loans for travellers already overseas - urgent

Hi there,

I'm a British resident and I'm currently on a working holiday visa in Australia, it has taken me nearly 3 months to get work out here so my savings have all gone. I now have 2 jobs and I'm working all the hours I can but I have a debt in rent which is preventing me from saving. I have intentions of staying here for as long as I can. Is there any where I can get a loan whilst already overseas, based on the fact I am in employment and only need a small loan to repay the rent debt I have and then I can begin to save again,
Thanks

  • If your earning enough that you'll be able to save money up, why cant you use the money that you'd be saving to pay off the debt (seeing as its small) and then start saving again rather than borrow?

Don't think you can get a loan whilst your not residing in the UK, ask your family to help out.

Why are you concerned about not being able to save. Your priority should be to pay off your rent arrears, not saving. When your rent arrears have been paid, then you can start saving.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    Bank of Mum and Dad?

Seriously, why would owing money to a loan shark be any better than owing to a landlord?

Its very embarrassing moment for anyone who is our of their native country and suddenly have lost their budget. But somehow moneylenders help them using foreigner loan.

Couldn't agree more Peterson. And can you recommend any moneylenders who might be able to offer one of these foreigner loans to Brett?

  • Perhaps, he wants to save so he can continue to travel and see more of Australia...

You should possibly do a breakdown on what you are spending your money on and then work out how to cut spending...

Can you move anywhere cheaper and move there and then pay your landlord the arrears with what you are saving. Could you see whether you landlord needs any help with his business, which could help towards repaying arrears?

Do you have a deposit held with your landlord, will this pay the arrears?

I would also ask, when you borrow, there is a repayment, so what type of repayment could you afford and why can you not just agree to a repayment plan with your landlord for this amount?

Last resort, maybe seek a credit card out - either your parents getting this for you, paying min payment will be cheaper initially than a loan and use this for essentials like buying travel card/food etc and use the money you were spending on this to repay your landlord but you have to think how you will pay this back when you return home and as others have said, the consequences of failing to repay your landlord may be less than failing to pay the bank/lender.

I'm sure that he knows a few and they will only want a small fee upfront to approve the loan - don't worry about the fact they're in Nigeria or India its all legit and above board. :rotfl:

Or perhaps the OP could try making a few bob selling kitchen cabinets by spamming internet forums....

I think possibly I was on holiday when the whole kitchen cabinet thing happened and now I feel left out with all these references to it.

Was this a special sort of spammer on the loans board?
