without any kind of usage history its difficult to determine what is the best..

Have you thought to ask the current occupant what there 'approximate' usage is.. as that would give a reasonable idea of what it will be like to run.

How new is the boiler , is it full central heating, effective double glazing, what type of house is it? how well insulated etc..

The british gas site does allow for comparing the house to others - anddid actually show historical readings for my house..

Its best to budget for maybe £100-120 per month combined cost.. try to avoid having a long tie in so that you have time to maybe monitor what you are actually using and work it out from there..

Its maybe not to your advantage that its nearing 'autumn' so heading into time of year when higher gas usage - so will start out using more so may not be in credit in spring.. E.g. my gas usage has been about £12 per month over summary, but over £120 a month in coldest dec\jan, but i pay about £70 per month and it averages out to be just in credit in spring time (so im now going into autumn with a healthy credit balance)..

electric usage tends to average about £35 per month - except for if use drier (but avoid that)..

energy monitors and 'regular' readings help to ensure no bill shocks...
  • Yeah our boiler/central heating windows are all new. Its a two bedhouse. we wernt sure if we should fix or pay as we go with not having any bills before its hard to say what is best and what is cheap etc. thanks for ur advice.
