Overpayment query!!

Hi, I have been sent a letter stating that we owe £15000 in overpayments and after looking through and adding up the credits given to us over the last 3 years I have found that combined we have only received a total of 14700!!
That's a combination of child tax credit and working tax credit!
Can anyone advise what I should do, I have been on hold to the hmrc some 6:45pm and is now 7:35 with no one

It is possible they held some back against another overpayment. So what you physically received might not tally with entitlement.
Sounds like they have asked for all credits back. Do you know why? Have you been investigated?
Also are you sure it is 3 years they are asking back they normally only do current year and previous year unless there is fraud or negligence and even th. you should have received a letter tellingyou about it.
I suggest you seek some professional advice.

Well finally got through after 1hr precisely. Was informed that although I'd rang every July to inform the hmrc what our last years income was (30k) they continued to send me an amount based on £11000 income, apparently they sent out 1 single letter in August stating this. I now have to pay 15k at £100 per month until the total amount is paid! Great.0

I have not been investigated and all of the figures I have previously given them were exactly true and given to me by my accountant!
At the end of the day, we must have seen an advert either on the tv or magazine saying that we might be entitled to some tax credits, we called, gave our figures, was told we could have x amount per month, then received it! Now the hmrc want it all back!0 -

Unfortunately if they sent out a notice showing 11k and you didnt tell them of the mistake the it is repayable.
I presume you are no longer getting tax credits if you are repaying directly?

But you've had an extra £100 per week for the last 3 years!0 -
They send an award notice every year, so it's not just 1 you've missed it's 3...0

Crikey £100 a month on 15k that is a mortgage!
As said above OP I feel your pain as I tend to not take too much notice of paper work myself but if it states on the award 11k then you are liable
Could be worst though OP they could be asking for a lot more."You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0
