  • Hi, new to this so hope I help. I've laid laminate in various rooms in my home and a friends. One tip is that you need plenty of time and a good pair of workgloves!!!! the banging, cutting and moving of laminate doesn't seem too bad at the time but your hands hurt terribly afterwards. Once you've mastered the technique it is easy but its much more fun to do with a second person around to do the fetching, crrying and cuppas necessary to complete the job. Good Luck!

You also need to be prepared to waste lots - if you make ANY mistakes in laying it (one example is butting the laminate together too tightly) you'll need to throw that piece away. My floor has lots of little bits in it where I wish now that I'd just removed the laminate and put a new piece in!

Cheap laminate damages easily and IMHO it may be more cost effective to buy good quality stuff. I used Quickstep with ecofelt underlay.

fairly easy for an average diyer. special tools required are the tapping block and the metal thingy for hammering the side pieces in place.
a kit cost about a tenner.
best advice is to remove the skirting boards and replace afterwards, either with new or the old, if removed very carefully. paint it before fixing and glue them with no nails.
cost of new skirting is cheaper than the laminate trim/s.
ive done a fair few rooms now and used the cheapo stuff from wickes and BQ. no real problems at all. wastage was very small indeed.
    Get some gorm.
