Can I use my Kindle wall-socket recharger to recharge my Ipod ?

Hi all,

I have a Kindle wall-socket recharger. Can I use it safely and without any problems to recharge my Ipod Shuffle or should I recharge it via my PC USB connector only ?

Many thanks

I doubt it'd be a good idea. The Kindle strikes me as requiring far more current from its charger to charge the battery in a reasonable amount of time.

Best just stick to using the USB on your computer.
  • Should be fine, I charge my iPhone using a Kindle charger without problems.

It's just a standard USB mains adaptor.

Mostly all recent devices have micro USB chargers, so anything can be charged, but standalone chargers tend to top up quicker, and if you charge from your computer, usb, it tends to mess the compy up, and crash it, unless you select unplug device. If you use the charger abroad, the box gets mega hot, but charges up in half the time,

USB is a 'standard' and so one will charge just as well as any other, the rate of charge may vary depending on the amps, but ultimately you are ok with any charger.
There are some 'variations' like Apple devices but nothing that alters the fact you can use any USB charger.

Are you aware of double height USB chargers/connections, also denoted USB 1 / 2?

The tills in Asda and other supermarkets use this standard.

Also a 4 pin USB connect, or 6 pin? that controls the charge rate, according to device?

Also chargers plugged into mains, will charge quicker than USB, or if you plug it in abroad, via a convertor, much much faster! And the transformer gets red hot? But charged in half the time?

I have no issue using my USB brick (bought a masterplug through plug with 2xusb sockets on it) over seas and it heating up. I plug phone/ipad/ipod in the usb, and even run a kettle on the though plug and no problems with either super fast charging, or over charging or red hot plugs.

I would never do it with a bought from far east/99p off the market one however. Sometimes it's worth paying that extra few quid for a proper one.

Actually I am but it appears you are not, the OP asked could they use any charger and the answer is 'yes'. USB delivers 5v regardless of version and as I said quite clearly the charge rate may vary according to device but the simple answer I gave to the question would the charger they had work was yes. And it is still yes.
Quite why you are mentioning the tills at ASDA when the OP is asking about a kindle charger beats me, I assume its an attempt to stamp your authority and belittle my n00bness ?

PS I assume you mean double rate USB, not double height !

Those kind of things aren't even ok for light use, they're nearly always dangerous in a whole load of ways.

As you are unaware of double height usb connectors, why would you state that that I am not? They are usb-2 connectors as standard, but parallel, and have been out for many many years!

USB DOES NOT DELIVER 5V REGARDLESS OF VERSION...other versions are 12v, and have 6 pin, and use different data lines wired, just to confuse.

You plug your phone into usb charger in the UK, takes xxx hours to charge; plug it in in Greece, charged under a hour, but the transformer will be red hot, due to the electrical frequency.

So - you clearly know nothing of the standards of USB standards. Check it out. Google is your friend.
