Advice on work focused interviews

I claim ESA and have a young baby for whom my husband in the main carer. I do as much as I can but due to my illness sometimes it is not possible. My partner had a letter to attend a work focused interview. Is he required to attend as we have such a young child? Will he be required to seek employment? At the moment it is unquestionable.

Yes he will be required to attend, but all he has to do is explain the circumstances to the person conducting the interview - ie he is the childs main carer as you are unable to take care of the child due to your illness, so he cannot be forced to seek work under those circumstances. DWP do this for anyone who claims Income related ESA after approx 6 months as they need to know why the partner is not working. We had the same happen to us in May. Explained that my OH is my carer although unpaid and that he cannot at present seek work due to my illness and associated problems. It was noted down and we were told would possibly be reviewed in another year or so. DWP cannot force anyone to seek work, despite lots of rumours to the contrary. Just tell him to explain the situation and all should be fine. WFI will possibly take less than 10 minutes.0

Every WFI I've attended. We've had a wee chat about my health. She's given me a list of free courses that are available (usually already half way through) I have never felt under pressure to look for work.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
