Recruitment consultant wants to see credit report-job offer

Has the job actually been offered on condition of satisfactory credit check, or is it a case of it may be?
The consultant called this morning to inform that I was selected and an offer will be made soon. Nothing "official" yet.
No conditional offer yet.Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -
OP- have you had an interview with the bank yet, or just the recruitment consultant?
Also is it a well known agency?0 -

MYDP, its perfectly plain that there is something not right about this. I'm a little shocked by, based on your opinion, how easily you would hand over financially sensitive details to any tom !!!!!! and harry!0 -

I have had interviews with the bank, met the hiring managers, the final one was a couple of weeks ago.
I probably should have waited for the conditional offer in writing from the bank before mentioning anything.
It is a known agency for financial jobs.Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -
no creditor will talk to a 3rd party about money you owe them. Its data protection and they cant even talk to a relative unless you have a person named on your account and an arrangement to talk to this person on your behalf.Exactly, that is my point. I don't mind passing on the PDF but I struggle to understand how a recruitment agency can approach my creditors and what benefits that will have.
And I feel uncomfortable letting them to do so.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Exactly, I know that a credit file can be easily obtained but I don't see the benefit or how a recruiter consultant will help by having access to mine and contacting my creditors.
At the end of the day, the decision to pull the offer or not, lies with the bank, not with the consultant.
My intention was just to be honest and let the bank know in the early stages of preparing the offer.Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -
Normally, the offer will be subject to references and checks. The bank has a regulatory requirement to ensure you are a fit and proper person for the role. If you are just admin, the requirements are often the same as those in cash handling positions. As the bank are responsible for your hiring, I would just let them get on with things.
Also, there are 3 main agencies for credit checking, all of which may not report the same information, so its potentially a pointless exercise...
My experience is that defaults may be quite adverse to an application as even late payments can get pulled up as you are expected to have an impeccable record which demonstrates that you are capable of managing credit and your finances. If there is explanation behind it, then be prepared to explain if required but as a new person, they may not do this.
Just politely decline the recruiters request and advise that you are happy to wait for the offer to come through and let the bank do their process.0 -
Ermmm - I had an interview and secured a contract with probably the best known financial institution in Europe.
At the point of offer made to me, I was asked if it is ok to run a credit check to which I agreed.
Agency run a credit check, offer was confirmed, end of - have been in my current position for around 6 weeks now. And mine is not an admin role, I am involved with new IT systems development/training so a little bit more involved in the business and would expect a credit check for that. But it was as I described above.
I have to say I would be uncomfortable with the way OP's agency wants to deal with things to be honest.0 -

I am guessing that you have a good credit record.Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -
My credit record has nothing to do with OP's queston/situation.
We are talking about a process here.0
