Recruitment consultant wants to see credit report-job offer

Good news first, I was offered a good job at a well known bank, in one of their investment banking divisions (admin role, no cash handling).

Bad news: My credit score is poor, with some defaults but no ccjs nor bankruptcy.
Due to that, and before they draft and send the offer/contract, I thought honesty was the best policy and told the headhunter about it, as he is the one handling the communication with the employer.

They (the headhunter), before approaching the bank, are now asking for a copy of my credit report on a pdf and for consent to contact the institutions I owe money to, to discuss the case on my behalf.

I feel uncomfortable providing the info and consent to a headhunter. I would prefer if they just flagged it up with the bank hr, so I could discuss it directly with the bank hr and the hiring manager to find a solution. I just don't see how a headhunter can help by contacting my debtors.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

They can do a basic check themselves, they don't need you to provide a PDF and even if they wanted to and with your permission, they couldn't "discuss" anything with your creditors due to the data protection act.

If you applied and got the job with the bank then the bank would conduct a basic credit check. Just to make sure you have no ccj's ECt

This all sounds very odd, are you sure this agency is legit?

Headhunter and basic admin role sounds a little unusual.
Are you sure it's not just an agency filling up their books.
  • Swallow the inconvenience and appease the request. Get the PDF even for your own safe keeping.

What about the bit about giving them permission to contact his creditors. As I said I don't think they could do that anyway, but this definitely isn't right!
  • A half decent job has been offered for goodness sake, can you not see the good position the OP is in? What is so taboo about allowing access to debt records. To me, it seems that the OP is looking for excuses not to take the role.

Without going into a lot of detail, it's a contract role within an admin division. The consultant calls himself a headhunter but they are just a normal recruitment agent.

Exactly, that is my point. I don't mind passing on the PDF but I struggle to understand how a recruitment agency can approach my creditors and what benefits that will have.
And I feel uncomfortable letting them to do so.

I do want the job, it's one I have been chasing for a while.
I would prefer to discuss it directly with the HR at the bank, once it was flagged up by the consultant.

But they might not want to do it that way! What you're proposing is making the process unnecessarily beaurocratic. There is a danger you might be seen as high maintenance and call off the offer.

Has the job actually been offered on condition of satisfactory credit check, or is it a case of it may be?
