Is this normal...?

Sometimes, not always, after driving my car once parked up and engine switched off, a fan will kick in under the bonnet. It's very loud and is obviously cooling something down, what worries me is that something is over heating and causing it to kick in even after I have stopped driving.

It's pretty normal. Engines get rather hot and once the car isn't moving they need a bit of help from the fan to cool themselves down.
When you're driving the airflow created by just being a moving car is often sufficient.0 -

I thought this would be the case but never known it before :-/0 -
Perfectly normal, the technical term is "heat soak".
Now you know why there are warning stickers near the radiator about not poking fingers in the fan as it can start at any time that the engine is hot.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Do you have aircon?
AC gets a separate fan, that sometimes keeps running after you shutdown the engine.
I mean.... I'm assuming you have checked the coolant level? We don't want you coming back with blown head gasket
