in Credit cards
Hi folks,
I have a credit card with Halifax (a one card) - I make monthly payments larger than minimum payment also.
My question is - what constitutes an accepted payment towards your current/monthly bill? (the minimum or above payment required) and not just a general 'credit' to your account?
Normally I send my payment through my online bank account (Smile). And that's what I intended to do this month as normal - but by luck I managed to have the money to pay more than 3x my minimum payment but this payment won't have come from my own bank account but else where.
(all payments on my statements show 'CR' - credit, next to them - but only payments I made through my own bank show as 'payment received thank you').
So anyhow, I guess I want to know whether, even though I'm paying larger payments off my credit card, does it matter 'where' the payment came from? I.e, if I let this larger payment go in, but skip on paying my normal through my bank, with this month being a bit tighter for me, would I get penalised for doing so? Even though I've essentially made a much larger payment?
Thanks for any advice, hope ive not waffled too much!

Hi,
It doesn't matter how you make the payment, or how its described on your statement. As long as its equal to or more than the minimum payment amount, and received by the due date, then its fine.0 -
Ok nick thanks! Since the last date on my recent statement I have made 3 payments that are double the minimum amount (in the last 9-10 days), and this weekend I paid another 3x amount of minimum payment which should enter my account this week before payment due date on 13th. So in all, I have made around 5x the minimum, but its from different sources. Good to hear anyhow.0

None of those were refunds. Just not all came from my regular bank account.
