In the light of the CPP insurance fiasco it turns out my father had a card protection policy direct from CPP because he was lead to believe it was necessary. He signed up for a three year policy and paid in full 3 years ago. He recently (July - before the problem came to light) decided it was not needed and cancelled his policy rather than renewal.
Would he still be entitled to his back or is it just those who bought the policy through a bank.
Edited.... I have now found further information it looks like he might be able to join the redress scheme.....he will have to look out for the letters !!

I've had one of these since about 2002 and it has often seemed to be a waste of effort.
The hoohah this year has no doubt caused a great many people to think about closing their policy. I filled in a renewal form a few days before the matter became public, and when you agree to something like that you have a period in which to change your mind, after which they can take your cash and you have no refund.
A letter came on the 27th August (which was dated 15th August!) telling me that I had until the 26th in which to change my mind about this year's renewal! You can phone a premium number of write them a letter, thus making it unnecessarily difficult to cancel.
That's another trick those sort of people can play, and as I now do not trust them I really should cancel all business with them.
Does anyone know how to reclaim all the previous years?0
