Dealing with a lost iPhone

OK, friend managed to leave her iPhone 5 on an Air France 'plane and doubtless the cleaners have kept it. Is there anything she can do by remote control to recover the information stored on the 'phone; to block any unauthorised use of it; or even to pinpoint its current location?
Thank you for any helpful suggestions, although now is too late for good advice about backing up and so forth.

If she had the app find my iphone yes you can find & disable it.
Hopefully the data is backed on computer or cloud.0 -
No, the data is not backed up anywhere.0

What have Air France said?0 -
I left my brand new iphone in the pocket on an air france plane last year on way to New York, Left it at Charles De Gaulle,
Anyway, couldnt do much whilst in New York but when i got back 5 days later i went to the Air France desk and they had my phone.
So do check, as they may be lucky as I was .0 -

Extraordinary!
Can I ask which desk, since they have a large presence at CDG? And was the 'phone physically at that desk, or did the people there trace it for you?0 -
Is she on contract? theres a much higher chance that you will find the phone if shes on contract and at very least block it. I'm on contract and have lost several phones which subsequently have blocked, the provider of the contract can put a block on the sim and phone for you when you call them.0

To be honest i cant remember now, i flew in from New York and had to go to a different terminal and there was an Air France desk, I had already emailed them from my husbands phone saying i had left my phone on flight and would be back in 5 days to collect it.. Anyway, went to the air france desk (Obviously where they keep lost property) and gave my name, type of phone etc, and they had it in a filing cabinet.0
