When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. :D.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

Morning folks, though as I am up nice and early that I would start us off :o

Yay, Monday :T and the start of a fresh week in which to cause havoc in the world :D

So much to do today both in and out of work, and that is one of the reasons I am awake early (only 1/2 hour earlier than usual so it's not too bad)

Hugs to those that need them, welcome to new members and awww to those who are not feeling well

On today's agenda:
  • Meals from stores
  • Take a slice of fruit tea loaf and a cheese and marmite scone to work as snacks
  • Read papers online and get a freebie paper for the journey to work
  • Use railpass to get to work
  • Do a bit of unpaid overtime as I have a half day, and need to leave work at a decent hour
  • Need to get my manager to fill in some college paperwork so the company get invoiced for my course (final year of AAT)
  • Need to go to hometown in the afternoon to sign up for college
  • Whilst I am in hometown, I need to pop into the bank and close one savings account and open another (it is a yearly account and I am away for the anniversary)
  • Need to take the money that's in there and put it to my cc
  • Need to change the account details on my online banking
  • May walk home depending on time, energy levels etc
  • Have checked banking as I was expecting some interest to be paid, but nothing yet
  • May go blackberry picking once I get home from town
  • May look into ordering my college books when I am back - these are going on CC and will be claimed through expenses, so no cost to me
  • Need to find something to eat for dinner tonight
  • Need to have a NSD 2/25

Think that's more than enough to be doing in a day

Take care all,
Candy xxx

  • New week, new month, new season (well, almost) - feels like the best time to be starting off new, positive habits!

    Today:
    • Take homemade lunch and snacks into work
    • TARGETED shopping at Boots - have written a list of necessities and will stick to it, buying ONLY those items and not being tempted by special offers or points deals!
    • Head up to the gym after work and make the most of my membership, the monthly payment for which went out this morning!
    • List a few unwanted items on eBay
    Good luck everyone :)
  • Morning  thanks for starting us off Candy - lucky having a 1/2 day :)

    Welcome Georgette :)

My list looks like this today

    * working from home
    * all meals from stores
    * look at meal plan for today's dinner
    * put a load of washing on & hang on line
    * measure up bit of wood needed for blinds and text oh
    * taking dd shopping later, will get a few bits, have a very small list
    * open an isa to transfer last years cash into
    * look for a savings account for my piggy pots
    * order ds' birthday present & pick up a card & send today
    * remind oh re the money he needs to give me for cc payment
    * go for a walk at some point
    * clean my car out & possibly go through the car wash (if it's on it's 99p offer :D)
    * check tyre pressure, oil, water & fill up while I am in town.

ok that's my lot. Better go and get dressed. The problem with working from home is I'm prone to just slobbing around and then by the end of the day I feel pretty rubbish. Not today!

May the force be with you all xx

    Morning lovelies!!

Thanks for starting us off Candy! Blimey, you were up early!!

Not much to report here, apart from the French Onion Soup appears to have worked it's magic (thanks Foxgloves!!) and I'm feeling a bit more with it today!! Had a fab day yesterday getting the allotment shed up in the sunshine with DBIL, looking pretty awesome now! Can't wait for spring to come so we can get planting in earnest!

Today's list for me goes something like this:

:) Check Banking - all good!

    :) Put ironing away

:) Adpoints, Swagbucks & some competitions

    :) Clean OH's car inside & out

:) Breakfast from stores & take dinner to work

:) E-mail some local companies about acquiring some items to be recycled into exciting things up the allotment! In progress...

:) Ring Dad to see if he fancies company next weekend.... ie. a free weekend on the surfing on the Gower beaches for us :rotfl:

:) Work 3-11pm - take food and will use OH's car so I can wash it there later!

Think that's about it from me! Hope we all have a great day!! Xxx

Morning all, well this mornings tesco delivery was a pain, my account hadnt let payment go through so I had to faff ringing head office and pay over the phone! Nightmare, anyway, food is in and it won't all fit in the fridge :s hoping kids play nicely so I can cook today.

The husband has signed the cc agreement I need to post back and I need to post 2 parcels today.

Hoping for a low spend day!

    Hi everyone :hello:

Checking in for today’s DFW activities:
    • Check banking and update all spreadsheets etc now most bills have come out
    • PAD to CC
    • Baked potatoes for tonight – done in SC
    • Use bus pass to get to yoga and back – embracing carless life…honest! :D
    • Washing out on the line
    • Used vinegar instead of fabric conditioner
    • Working hard – they gave me £500 more than they said they’d increase my salary by :j Roll on this payday (23 days to go!) and the back-pay coming through since 1 August’s rise :T --- PS - I don't mean they have overpaid me and I've not told them... Just that they said one figure, I accepted the job and then they wrote to me with the formal offer and had given me £500 more :)
    That’s me :)

    Good Morning Money Savers.....
Busy morning here, as I wrote a mega job list for the week last night & although I've made a good start on it, for every job I cross off, I think of 2 more things to write on......it's like that puzzle our old maths teachers used to set for us every year about the frog in the bottom of the well who jumps up one foot & then falls back two.....sighs! Never mind, got a touch of Doingstuff-itis today so will crack on!
    Small positive MS things:
*Laundry done overnight on Economy 7 tariff, 30 deg, half powder, still got spin cycle on lower setting while I can line-dry.
*All pegged out in the sunshine, breezy too, nearly dry already!
*Washer reloaded for another cheap overnight wash tonight.
*Dealt with rubber chicken. It did roast dinner yesterday. Divvied it up & have enough for fahitas, chicken chilli pizza, chicken & vegetable curry, a stew or soup & at least 2 packed lunches. Gribbly bits in slow cooker for stock.
*ebay listings checked, the never-ending ebay problem dealt with......or is it? it just won't go away....hopefully this should be the last of it.
Other money-saving small jobs on list still to be done today are: Update grocery budget, make tomorrow's packed lunch, pick peppers & salad for dinner, feed veggies, give newly painted lobby & loo a facelift without spending any money......the trusty Stardrops is already in the bucket....., wrap ebay parcels......Oh, this week's list is endless, I'll just see how far I get.
Shootforthemoon - Glad the French onion soup helped you rally a little. I've known a couple of bowls of that, an early night & a bit of honey & lemon with fresh grated ginger & cinnamon get my partner back to work the next day from the most dreadful cold. He won't even take a paracetemol....just looks at me like I'm trying to feed him Class A drugs, so this soup is a medicine in our house!
    Cheers all,
    f x

    Morning all <sniff, cough, splutter>

Thanks for the starter Candy. Didn't get up until a shocking 10am today.

    The List:

:staradmin Did the start of month accounts. A bit like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. OH took the news that we'll be dropping our shopping/housekeeping/leisure budget from £160 to £155 for the coming month as we need to save to pay the quarterly TV License. aka Daylight Robbery payment.

:staradmin Put £150 into Savings account for a week.

:staradmin Listening to free play downloads from the Wireless Theatre Company. (Link)

:staradmin Treating the Plague with hot water, lemon, honey, ginger and clove and one Tesco Cold Relief pill. (£1.50 per packet of 16) I usually take Echinacea drops as well but we're out of them and they're expensive to buy, even though the bottle lasts forever so I shall make do without. Foxgloves you make me laugh, love the Class A drugs gag. Oh no, my OH is sick now as well.

:staradmin OH lathered wee car with a little Tesco Value car shampoo just before the rain started. The rain can do the rest.

:staradmin I was having trouble sleeping so I had been listening to 30 min podcasts on my MP3 player to lull me to sleep. Now that I'm sleeping well again I'm going to try to go back to listening to the sound of rain for 15 mins. Less battery power!

:staradmin OH made two batches of scones. One for the freezer.

:staradmin Tackle ironing being sure not to iron tea towels or anything else that doesn't really need it. Turn iron off as soon as I start doing last garment to use residual heat.

    :staradmin Read paper online.

:staradmin Need to buy a radiator key. Top of radiators are cold so they need bleeding. Will try £1 shops when we're next in town. Been putting this purchase off. Found one for 99p on eBay. Problem solved.

    :staradmin Job-hunting.

:staradmin Quietly celebrating 9.5 months without prescription mental health medication.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Today I made my first step forward, though it has only been a very small one: I have negotiated a better deal on my BT phone. Even so, it is only the tiniest drop in the ocean so far as my debts go.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
