well at around midnight last night I decided to try matched betting - um not my best time to read and absorb such information.

I placed 2 x £10 bets with betfair and Coral - then had my £10 bonus with Coral and my bet won £16.10 with betfair (pure luck I reckon).

So £20 I paid out in return I have = £16.10 winnings, a £10 free bonus which I used to bet on a horse in the 2.35 (fingers crossed) and I gained by using quidco = £55.20

    So total made = £71.30 - £20 of my own money = £51.30 and ..........

I have the free bet on a horse today and a bet on Liam to win Big Brother. I may not alot about horses/footie but Big Brother I'm not too bad on LOL.

So £51.30 for abit of reading last night was actually not bad at all !!! BUT I won't be dabbling again, well maybe just the grand national

Hey all! I'm after your opinions:

Remember I said I was reclaiming bank charges? Yesterday I received a letter from Barclays offering £170 as a "goodwill gesture in full & final settlement of my claim", and now I'm not sure what to do

I claimed for £390 in total (£350 charges + £40 interest at 8%). I was hoping for a better offer than £170, but I don't really want to take it to court if I can help it.

170 quid is 170 quid and there's no question it'd come in handy right now. I've considered giving them a call and trying to haggle their offer up a bit but I've been put off a bit after reading the reclaiming bank charges forum where others have tried this tact and Barclays have consistently refused to play ball.

So... what does everyone think I should do?

P.S. Lynz, I've only just started matched betting myself but you're welcome to PM me with any questions (can't promise I'll be around on saturday though sorry). The folk on the gambling forum are all very helpful and prompt answering questions - best you post on the newbie thread & get expert advice there.

Lynz, I'm too new at MB too although happy to help, PM me and if I'm about I'll help where I can. The newbie thread right at the top of the gambling board is excellent, so many people there will give their time up to help us newbies!

Doc, I know what you mean, £170 is £170 and it's more than you had before but I think I personally would press for more. There must be a Barclay thread over on the reclaiming your bank charges board, the Halifax insider hints thread is what helped me get the full amount so have a read through and if not post your query over there and I'm sure there'll be someone that's with Barclays that can help. Good luck!!

after my success I have taken my MB and I am running ! far too much info for me.

Dr Hook I claimed from both HSBC and RBS for unfair charges. Both times I stood my ground and with HSBC on the 2nd letter they paid out. RBS was a closed account which I shut down 2 years ago when my overdraft was nearly £2,000 at one stage. They offered me an amount but I decided to take them to court and filed the papers with MOCL and paid the court fee. Anyway, 4 days before the date of the court hearing they offered me the full amount PLUS my court charges. I would say definitely go for it, it's worth holding out for the full amount. After all, if the boot was on the other foot they wouldn't hesitate to claw it all back. Good luck.

well some good news, my sister is having a clear out and wondered rather than binning the items, did I want them ! this includes one of those 3 wheeler prams which she hardly used and a king size metal bedstead. So I am hoping to sell these and boost my total.

I am planning on doing a car boot on the weekend, fingers crossed the weather is OK. My quidco total is going up nicely at the moment, wish I had discovered it sooner.

meant to say - Dr Hook, if it was me I wouldn't phone cos I'm a bit scared of phones. But then I'm not remotely normal in that way! What I would do (if *I* wasn't me but someone else more normal) would be to call and see if they'd budge, then if they don't just accept the £170. You've already decided that the £170 is a good sum and much needed, so as far as I can see you've already won and just seeing if it can get better. You won't lose it.

Lynz, if I'm around on Sat feel free to pm me. been doing MB'ing for over a year now (that long??) on and off.

ok really off to do clicks now...
