Changing supplier

Why is it so difficult to change suppliers.

Just tried to change from edf to marks and spencers {sse}. Two weeks pass and i get a standard letter saying you have a prepayment meter for gas so we have now canceled the switch for both utilities. If they rang to talk about the issue they would soon realize i do not have any meters that are prepayment.

I am sure i am not the only one that gets fed up trying to save money but give up because of the barriers in place.

Hmmm - There has been a error somewhere

On a Switch, the Gas, ( nor the Elec), doesn't just swap directly from one supplier to another - In between them is the MPAS who are the national central registry of Gas meters, who record the the Meters No., it's type and where its located.
So the National records are kept up to date, communications between the two suupliers must go through the MPAS

Errors do occur, it's possible someone mis-quoted your Meter No. to the MPAS or that their exiting data is wrong due to an earlier error
You can check the record by phoning the MPAS on 0870 608 1524

MPAS is elect not gas and it does not holf the meter type. In elec meter types get passed between Meter Operators (maintainers) who pass it onto the supplier.

SPIRO - Please don't confuse the OP - Meter Point Aministration Service is the registry for Gas Meters

The Elec. meter registry depends on the area you live in and is based on the regions controlled by the now defuct national boards ie LEB, Manweb, Eastern etc

Hello Spiro - Well, well, well - I'm wrong and you're right

Punched MPAS into Google which immediately thinks I've mis-spelt and brings up a lot about Maps - So punched in the full title 'Meter Administration Service' and up comes Electricity, so my apologies

When I responded to this OP I checked the web by Googling 'Who supplies my Gas' - Amongst the many items shown was that from the Citizens Advice Bureau. - With CAB now being part of the Govt. approved route for Utility Complainants , I selected this as the check scource rather than one of the Commercial sites
QUOTE "In England,Wales & Scotland, if you do not know who supplies your Gas to your home, contact the Meter Point Administration Service on 0870 608 1524" Well at least the phone number is right

    Have a look for yourself
