You can also get an on-line visa for Turkey which saves time at the other end as well0

Hi everyone, just to let you know I went ahead and did the TC online check in. Got seats together easily. If you are unhappy with the seats, don't bother confirming, just go back and refresh the options when others have checked in. I was doing this at hourly intervals until I got seats I was happy with. It saved us £7.50 each!
When we arrived at the airport, Thomas Cook had 2 check in desks open. The queues were huge! We arrived in fairly good time, went straight to the online check in desk. There was around 10 people in the queue, checked in within about 10 minutes. Definitely would recommend using the Online check in option!CC1: £1000 £826

I have a similar problem. Due to fly next week with Aer Lingus to Ireland.
They advertise free online check in. I am travelling alone with hand luggage only.
When I try to check in online it seems you can't do this without paying to choose a seat first. I don't care where I sit for a short flight on my own, but it looks as if I have to pay £5 each way or else turn up even earlier at the airport to check in.0
