Buying/Selling - This is where we're up to. How long?

Any advice on how much longer before we exchange contracts would be appreciated! These are the notes that we can view online on the solicitors site.

Buying

-Searches checked and sent to client.
-Received Draft Contract
-Contract inputted and copies of the sellers property information and fittings & contents emailed to client.
-Received Notification of Sale
-Mortgage Offer received

Selling

-Contract sent out to buyer`s solicitors
-Enquiries raised by buyer`s solicitors.
-Enquiries sent to client and Management Agents
-Replies to enquiries sent to buyer`s solicitors.
-Chased up management company for replies to enquiries. Enquiry sent to the client.

Unfortunately no one can give you a definitive answer, there are too many variables.....

We have been going since beginning of June... Solicitors are slooooow!

Phone your solicitor and ask them what you're waiting for still. BTW, from what I've heard, the more you ask/nag your solicitor, the quicker it will likely go through. Solicitors aren't always particularly proactive - they'll have plenty of other cases to deal with.

Of course your solicitor may not be slow - chains get held up by any one of the other solicitors/management companies etc etc in it.

After getting both surveys done (ie my buyers and my own) I then "started my solicitor off" and it took about 7 weeks from that point to Exchange. I started getting the feeling nearer the end of that time that people who were behind me in the queue were at least trying to leap ahead of me (with the next Academic Year coming up) and so started nagging my solicitor to make sure that I "kept my place" and hopefully none of them got "served first".
