i snipe an auction that ended during the night.
I pay first thing this morning.
seller emails saying they put in the wrong email on 'all of my listings' and the email i paid to doesnt exist.
They say i need to pay manually via paypal through 'send money'.
I log in paypal which shows it as 'pending', so I cancel, but as its already in process it'l take a while to credit my paypal or bank acc?
I ask them to update their details and resend invoice but they say ebay doesnt let them? and i have to do it the way they said?
I repeat that ill pay once i see the funds back in my acc, so they say they'll do a second chance thing instead and goodbye. (LMAO)
Am I being over cautious or is this a scam?
I check their listings and there is none. Surely if they made a mistake on all listings they could've changed it before the listing i won ended?

Probably not a scam at all, just a blooming nuisance.
If a seller puts the wrong PayPal ID on the listing then any invoice will pick that ID up and cannot be changed so buyers have to make a direct payment.
However, whatever you decide to do you're right to want to see your cleared funds returned to you first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You can ask the seller to send you a Paypal invoice from the correct account and include the Ebay item number, then it connects up again so you're covered should anything else go awry..0

That's what i told them, but they said ebay told them no.
I was like !!!!!!!!
That's when i got even more suspicious, coz they emailed back saying they can see i cancelled the paypal thing... which made me think they were masking an email of some sort... how else would they know if the acc doesn't exist?0 -

Their eBay account has probably gone to an egg timer, so yes they will know you have cancelled.
I think you are seeing scams where you have just in fact got a confused seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. When I started on ebay afew months ago, even with all the helpful info. in this forum and from a member of family I still made a mess of it where paypal where concerned. Ebay automatically opened a payapl account to be updated later by me, however when receiving payment I had problems as I was unable to get into account or verify details and paypal suggested I ask buyer to claim back money.
Buyer was lovely as he did claim his money back and I resold item to him at the price he had won over a month ago. It took a long time for him to get his money back but he was lovely about it.
I new he had put in a claim as he had mentioned it in a message and asked if I would hold off reselling as he still wanted item. Paypal could not and would not confirm if he had been paid as I could not verify the details set up by Ebay.0 -

A VERY confused seller I expect.
It happened to me. I used my mobile to put sales onto Ebay and it wasn't until the first item sold that I realised that my paypal account had.com rather than .co.uk
I couldn't access the money, Ebay told me the money hadn't been taken out of buyers accounts and I was to tell them to cancel and then resend. I couldn't actually tell them where to send it as Ebay doesn't allow messages to contain email addresses....so back to customer service....had to request their contact details and call them. I must have been lucky because they all seemed to believe me....think they had the awful measure of Ebay and Paypal.
Anyway, probably not a scam, possibly induced by Ebay's Americal infilling of.com on the mobile app.0
