To say i have a non existent , well attrocious credit rating is an understatement - dont judge me too quickly i am a young widow with a 13month old baby. Anyway does anyone know of a bank that will give me a card to order on the phone/online that doesnt involve a credit score?? - I just want MY money not an overdraft and have tried 2 banks already and told no no basic account only where a cheque takes ten days to clear aaaaarrggggggghhhh. Have heard of preloaded credit cards which cost the earth but just want to use the money in my account. Is this a silly question?

Sorry to hear your story. If all else fails open an account and keep your nose clean for six months (use the account so it can be seen as being active but NEVER let it go overdrawn, not once) and with a bit of luck they'll judge you a little more kindly after a while.
I take it you've followed Martins tips on getting a credit reference? You can pay around £2 and have it posted to you. If there are genuine reasons for bad credit and they've been sorted you should be able to have a comment to that affect put on your credit history.
Good luck!
ps it may be a pain, but we use a vantage card for online shopping and then, via online banking, immediately transfer the same amount of dosh from our basic current account into the vantage account via their bill payment facility. Alternatively you may be able to use paypal on some sites, paypal can be linked direct into many types of bank account using sort code/account number.0 -

Clydesdale Bank if you are in Scotland, Yorkshire Bank in England.
Basic bank account in Clydesdale gave us a Maestro Card which has been accepted everywhere we have been, online banking, telephone banking and really helpful call centre and branch staff.
It was an Bankruptcy/electoral register check and not a credit score to get it and I left the branch with the account number that day, card and pin about a week later. Also the promise that they would look at the account again at a future date and would take into account the conduct of the account if we requested a 'upgraded' account.0 -
