financial advice over split

hiya everyone,
i'm new here so please be patient with me.
What do I need advice with?
well, my 18 year relationship is all but over, we just need to admit it to each other, 2 kids 17 (and working) and 12. We rent a council house, he works and I am a full time student in the final year of my degree.
What I would do is move out and leave him with the house, as the rent is easily affordable on his wages. I know I would get housing benefit, but not sure how much. I have seen a few flats/houses -2/3 bedrooms with the rent around 500 a month - would housing benefit cover the full cost of this?
not sure if the 17 year old may stay here with dad. Would I be entitled to benefits as a single mum and a student??
i think i am panicking that i would not manage financially?
any advice would be helpful
thanks

Might be worth talking to your student financial advisor about the benefit situation, or to CAB.
Just a line to say re the house whoever the kids will live with should keep on the house. Especially when parents are splitting up etc security of place can be soothing. They'll have enough change without having to leave home/friends etc. I'm speaking from experience here, when my parents split up we moved with my mum. It really did feel like we hadn't just lost a dad we'd lost our whole lives.0
