I had FireFox set up just how i wanted, but then i installed a program which wrecked the PC & i needed to do a system restore. From then on when i open a new tab i get that splash screen of 9 mini pages of sites i've visited.
Before the system restore, i just got a blank page - which is what i want.
No idea where this 9 mini screen thing has come from because that was never in my settings beforehand, but there you go.
Question is - how do i get rid of it?

open a new web page!
look for the 9 tiny boxes at the top right of the page
single click toggles between the "popular pages" screen and a blank one.Laters

Alternatively, go through Tools -> Options -> General tab -> Startup -> Home page and put about:blank in that field.0

If you are concerned about your privacy, you can turn this feature off completely:- In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
- The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
- Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.
- Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url from about:newtab to about:blank. Alternately, you can change it to about:home for the Firefox Google home page, or type in your preferred home page, for example google.com.
- Click OK and close the about:config tab.
