First Pacific Company Shares

My friend was given a number of share certificates in First Pacific Company Limited, each one has nine 1 US cent shares. The company is still trading. The current share price seems to be 8 HK$....which is one cent. The shares haven't been transfered, still having the original owners name on them. Would it be worth the effort to try and transfer the shares ownership, to either receive any future dividends or sell the shares themselves, or are they junk?

This is a uk site, so not the east for us or Hong Kong advice.

Nine shares in anything isn't much, unless its apple or similar tech shares, so its unlikely these are worth much. Do you mean Hong Kong cents as 8 hk dollars is about one US dollar. Even so, it would appear it would cost more than their value to do anything with them.
  • Thank you for your reply. I'm in the UK, sorry I hadn't realised questions had to be confined to our locality. I had misread the exchange rate too, so the shares are worth about a dollar US each, this being 100 x their face value, it's a pity that it would cost too much to do anything with them. Each certificate has 9 shares and I believe my freind has a couple of hundred of them.

Ok, sorry I thought quoting dollars and hk dollars you might be us based. The .com suffix seems to make many Americans think this is a us based site rather than a uk one.

Also it sounds as though your friend holds a reasonable quantity of shares which might be worth a few thousand so they are worth a fair but by the sound of it. Your friend needs to contact a stockbroker who deals with Hong Kong listed shares but shop around to check costs and ensure he doesn't get overcharged. I've heard people recommend saxo bank but have no experience of them.
  • First Pacific’s shares are also available for trading in the United States through American Depositary Receipts.Would that make them easier to trade?
