You could just buy a door from a scrappy or Ebay.0

It is not always the case that a claim (even your fault) results in a higher premium.
In 2002, I wrote off my car, and my insurance paid out £1800. minus the excess. 4 Months later at renewal they wanted 200% of the original premium, £600 instead of £300.
Shopped around and got insured for £280. Some might say I was paying too much to start with, and got lucky.0 -
Seems a new door and respray is required. Official BMW garage is quoting £1700 + VAT for a new door. Independent quoting about £850 + VAT.
So best case scenario prob £1k out of pocket today. Alternatively claim on insurance = £400 excess and I'd have to believe my premium would not go up by more than £200 a year for the next 3 years to make it worthwhile
I think I should notify my insurance co to preserve optionality of seeking to make a claim in the future. Is that sensible given the circumstances?0
