Car Insurance on separation

Hi,
Looking for some assistance and advice on dealing with car insurance having recently separated from my wife.
We own 2 cars between us, but both are registered and insured in my name, as I have 20 years driving experience, while she has only 4. This may not have been the best way to do it, but too late to worry about that now. The cheaper car has 2 years NCD and the more expensive 7 years I think.
Worth pointing out that we have 4 kids, and still from time to time drive each others cars.
So, the cheapest way of doing things seems to be to stick with the status quo, ie in my name with the ex as a named driver. However, I guess at some point we should get her car and insurance into her name. The problem is this seems to double our premium.
One thought is whether the current insurer on her car would switch the policy into her name, with NCD intact. Probably unlikely, but might be worth a call?
Any other comments or advice gratefully received.
Thanks,
John

I don't think you can stick with the status quo as you would at least need to notify them of different addresses.
They may do, or they may allow her a NCD equivalent to the 2 years for a new policy in her own name. One thought is whether the current insurer on her car would switch the policy into her name, with NCD intact. Probably unlikely, but might be worth a call?0 -
You can keep things as they are but as before, you must declare who the main driver is, where the vehicle is kept overnight etc. Presumably as you are no longer together then your not living together any more?
This however is ultimately delaying the inevitable and she will need to bite the bullet and get insurance in her own name at some point soon. An insurer may be willing to mirror the 2 years NCD across to her but you are purely looking at their goodwill rather than any "rights" to do it0
