GAP payment warning!

Options
Spoke to my mum today, she and my dad purchased a pair of jeans each from GAP last week paying separately with their AmEx cards.

Now my mum is particularly anal about banking so checks her statements pretty much daily.

On checking her AmEx statement she noticed that her pair of jeans had been charged 5 separate times and my dads 3 times (they both have cards for the same account).

She contacted AmEx to ask them to put the incorrect amounts back in her account, no problem at all, next day she checks her account, she has now been charged 7 times for her jeans and my dad 5 times.

Again contacted AmEx and got them refunded, again checked her account the following day, she has now got 12 charges for her jeans and my dad 9!!!!

So she phones AmEx again and GAP, she gets the money refunded (again!) and GAP tell her "they are aware there is an issue and it should be sorted by NEXT WEEK:eek:

The point of this ramble is to please check your statements if you have been shopping in GAP and paid by card, as my parents were incorrectly charged 21 times in total for 2 pairs of jeans.

If the are aware of the issue then they may have already have sorted recreditting the money back. I would suggest your mum keeps an eye on her account over next few days to make sure that GAP and AMEX don't both credit her meaning she would then have to sort it out again.

Thanks Storck, as I said she's incredibly anal about her accounts and watches them like a hawk! So spots any mistakes straight away.

Not sure if its just limited to AmEx users or all credit cards, seems like a weird thing to happen though.

I would say that if the retailer is aware of such an issue with their card processing system, then it is irresponsible of them to continue to use it until they get it fixed.

If they are aware of it I'm guessing it is something that they have fixed or as you say they should have stopped using it. The time delay will probably be in crediting everyone back or cancelling the transactions before they have been completed.

I think you'll find that if a mistake is made in the customer's favour, the company concerned will sort it out double quick without any need for a reminder from said customer. :D

It is a harder thing to do in stopping the payment system if it is online ( only way really is take the site down for maintenance) . in a physical store it will be easier as the stores should also have a backup manual old signed voucher machine.
  • This is shocking....

  • Just thought I'd add to this, as I've been affected by the same problem. I also used an Amex card (Lloyds version) and I've been charged 6 times for a single transaction. Just got off the phone from Lloyds and I was the 4th person the customer services rep had spoken to today with the same problem. He's placed my transactions into dispute so we'll see what happens.
