Faulty M&S trousers - what will they do?

I bought some lovely trousers in the M&S sale online. When they arrived I was shocked to find that one leg is a good inch or so shorter than the other! They were originally £100 so I expected really good quality. Aside from the fault, I really love them so would like to exchange them for a perfect pair. They're only available online but they're sold out now so I'm unlikely to be able to exchange them. I could get the longer leg taken up so they're both the same length - would M&S reimburse me for the cost or offer to do the alteration for me if they can't replace them?

I would imagine that they will refund what you paid for them.

The problem is I don't want a refund - I want to keep the trousers but have them altered. Surely this will be better for M&S too as they'll probably end up throwing the faulty pair away?0

Surely you'd be best to ask M&S this question?0

Of course! I just thought I'd just ask on here to see if anyone knew what the likely outcome would be - hope that's ok??0

Of course, just seems a bit pointless when your guess is as good as anyone's!

Well perhaps someone has had a similar thing happen to them or even work for M&S, if you can't help it doesn't mean no one can!0

They were £ 100 in the sale, are they suit trousers?0

Law does allow for a reduction in price as a remedy for faulty/misdescribed goods. Equally, the retailer can refuse.
Get a quote to have them taken up, if its reasonably cheap, point out to m&s instead of them paying out for postage for their return and having to discard/sell off cheap/return to manufacturer, you can have them repaired for x price if they'll meet the costs. You keep using that word. Thank you, at least I know it's worth asking and not completely unheard of.0
