If not and the only alternative is to install some lightweight cr**py lightweight programme like Puppy then I think I'll stick with XP.
I've been using Puppy for a couple of months now and it's far from cr**py. I'm yet to find anything I can't do on Puppy that I used to be able to do on XP or Ubuntu, and it's astonishingly quick.0 -

To be honest I think Puppy Linux is about it for the laptop. It's a machine from the Windows 98 era.0 -
You could try your own "mix and match install" of, for example, Debian minimal install plus IceWM Window Manager. I've done that on several machines, and it's very light on resources. It's also possible to make IceWM look very like Windows XP (though not compulsory to do so!)0
