You are paying through the nose for all the little packets that you are opening and then throwing in the bin.

The upside is that you are keeping all those people who make the little paper bags in a job.

It amazes me that we waste so much money on chucking things away, it is supposed to be a MONEY SAVING SITE.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for money saving and I practice that :) but a couple of months ago i went down a couple of brands for most of my shopping, cereal being one of them - oats and cornflakes, I was being physically ill eating it. I have various allergies and intolerances so I know it was these causing my problems.

Most of my shopping is non branded food and I cook from scratch also but with luxuries like oat so simple, I like to know when this is half price :-). I do recycle the packets also

Yes but it's about getting what you want at the best price, not giving it up because someone else thinks it's a waste of money.

I'm sure everyone on here buys something that others would consider a waste of money. And by the same token there are many people who buy more expensive brands and will not give them up for cheaper ones just to save money, in fact there was a thread about it.

I think you've missed the point somewhat.

Bargain Bunny (and I dare say the majority of people, even on this site) are willing to pay extra for convenience in some areas of life - not for the fact it's in a little paper bag.

People can be money saving by being careful about where and when they buy, as well as what.

Now, all of this talk of breakfast foods is making me hungry - I'm having the Frosties, but McKneff you can have your choice of the remainder in exchange for your caps lock key?

  • My version of "Oats So Simple" is to measure double the volume of liquid to oats and two minutes in the microwave. Unless those packets contain something special like maple syrup I can't see the point of them

I got some free with some vouchers a few months ago. I would never buy them again unless they were on a very special offer, but i have to say they were very convenient and easy to make.

The packets contain the exact amount of oats, which you put into a pan and then use the packet to measure the exact amount of milk. The packet has a line on it, so just fill it with milk up to the line and pour into the pan.

I just use the cheapo oats now, which require a set of scales and a measuring jug.

sorry folks if I gave the wrong impression. Its my OH who eats the porridge in our house and he's quite happy with the big bag of fine oats done for a few minutes in the microwave. I love my food and I eat little and often so I really eat what I want. If I can afford to eat what I like, then I do so, I eat with my eyes, if I don't like the 'look' of something, nothing in the world would make me put it in me mouth let alone swallow it lol.
Thanks for the offer of what's left of the variety pack but I like me
Crunchy nut Cornflakes complete with some soft fruit, and chopped nuts. The one thing I don't scrimp on is nice fresh virtually just cooked bread, I just love it.
No offence was intended to anyone and my apologies if anyone was.

Obviously need to factor in delivery costs - but may be useful if you are buying a lot or can find other things to order.
