True. But the post implied she had no other means of supporting her baby, which suggests she has no other source of income. Hopefully OP will come back and clarify.

I know but there have been several threads recently where OP's have stated the above, despite the fact that they do have partners, as they felt or assumed that they would be entitled to something in their own right. However, as you say, hopefully OP will clarify.

I am also self employed and about to apply for MA. The way I understand it you have to have all your class 2 NI contributions up to date before you apply for MA and you have to have worked for at least 26 out of the 66 weeks before your babys due date.

I think if you get your outstanding class 2 contributions up to date and then start paying them monthly you should be able to reapply for MA. If you stop paying your class 2 contributions your MA will also stop. If you want to pay 6 monthly then you would be better to pay in advance not arrears. Most of the self empolyed women I know opt for the monthly payments.

Also if you are paying 6 months it is not 6 months from when you registered as self employed there are set payment dates for NI of 31 July and 31 of January each year so as far as they are concerned you have probably defaulted on the July payment and are behind.

Give them a call and get your payments update and I am sure you can reapply for MA.
