Access to my credit report Problems

Hi all,

So here goes.

I left my ex partner some years ago and ever since had no end of troubles. I have got to the stage where i dont know who i oew and what i owe and even if its still owed.

I had some health problems and as such i can't remember basic things but my long term memory is ok.

I tried to login to experian but i cant remember which email i used so i called them and they couldn't help me as i couldn't remember my memorable word.

So its been at least 4 years since i paid my iva or creditors. How on earth and where do i start.

I now work self employed and want to start again but dont even know what state my affairs are in. Any advice on what i can do?

Great site and so much info on here. Be gentle with me please.

Thank you

  • Hi there,

As long as you have kind of accounts that report to CRAs (bank, cards, mobile phones) and ideally you are on electoral role, then they will hold info on you.

Have you moved in the last 4 years?

If so and you change address with banks etc, that will create an address link on your file.

So, write to Experian and request your £2 statutory credit report. As long as they know about the address you request it to be sent to you should be ok.

Can also request call credit one for free from Noddle.

You can sign up to an Equifax trial also, or request your £2 one from them also.

Defaulted accounts will stay on your file for 6 years from settled, or 6 years from default date, paid or not.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the reply.

    Ok.

I don't have a bank account (Although after reading on here i managed to get a nationwide cash account approval last night ) Im not on the electoral role and dont have a phone or card or anything. Last thing i had was over 4 years ago now.

Does the 6 years start from when i defaulted oir when i defaulted on my IVA?
  • No expert on IVA, but I assume each account included was defaulted.

So 6 years from the individual account defaults.

You might need to pick a CRA to request your report from then send them any ID they request. I would pick Experian as you had an account with them.

If you have not moved house it should be easier to get.

  • Thanks a lot.

Ive paid the £2 to get that one for now so i can at least make a start on it all.

    Cheers for the help
