    Thanks guys,

I don't think we have contacted them but will check. It looks like for Nottingham it's Western Power Distribution according to a site I found on google (can't post the link)

    Is that correct?

The past 2 sparky's that have come have walked out and said this system needs a PME solution. We have another one coming at 2pm so will see what he says.

Before you call anymore electricians and waste more time, ascertain from Western Power Distribution what type of supply you have first.

To be honest, good competent electricians should know what type of supply properies have in that area.

Ok so the latest is that an electrician is round here and he's managed to locate where the live feed goes to and has traced out the old wires and said he could have it sorted by the end of the day, then we can call the power company and they can install the PME, fingers crossed!

Thank you very much for your help Myser and Keystone! I'll let you know how it goes!

Jai, the previous reply re a survey before starting is correct but to late for that now.
    Fault finding mode.
As trips can give a fault when an earth and neutral are connected, you would need to disconnect the old wiring and see what is working and what is not. Reconnection of circuits and checking to see what brings the fault back will help isolate the problem, there may be more than one issue.
I would start by isolating the lighting circuits but in old wiring have come across lighting fed from feeds for sockets. There is no easy answer, you need a good fault finding electrician and it will take time. There will also be a problem with access to all the ceiling roses junction boxes etc. the electrician will need a meter/meggar to assist with checks on the wiring.
    Good luck

Maybe you mean bonding to pipes rather than pme.
