Anyone applied for a Post Office CC lately?

Hi all

I applied for a post Office credit card recently as my final default had dropped off and I was declined, I recieved the decline letter today advising they used Experian and I amy want to get a copy of my credit file, but they also suggest I may want to contact CIFAS. What I want to know is, is this a standard letter, or are they trying to suggest I may have CIFAS markers?

I know i can always contact them, but it is a bit of a pain, and dont want to waste time and money if this is just a standard letter.

I do look at my credit files (especially Experian as i get it free from my bank as well as Equifax updates via Cap1) weekly and i cannot see CIFAS on there, but I know certain categories are hidden from me.

What confuses me is recently I have been accepted for both Halifax and Creation cards, so dont think there is anything on there, but it may have been added recently I guess.

Probably the high number of recent acceptances is the reason for rejection - as for CIFAS, the BoI (card operator) provide this for completeness, so I would not assume a CIFAS flag is active unless due to a very recent addition.

Indeed, not so much the two recent credit searches rather the presence of two recently opened accounts will negatively affect your creditworthiness.

Also, you can't see most CIFAS markers on your credit report, only "Protective Registration" markers (Category 6 I think?) - all others e.g. victim of impersonation, first party fraud, third party fraud, etc etc - are only visible on the CIFAS report you get direct from CIFAS themselves.

But I wouldn't worry, just give it six months from when your most recently opened account was opened before applying elsewhere :o
