- the drier element of washer / drier will be expensive, for example :
- a fullish wash cycle 18 pence
- a fullish drier cycle 64 pence
- total cycle 82 pence
That does not sound too much but that's a total of about £300pa for an average family - for a family with a new baby in the worst winter for decades ................... maybe much more !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Gas was 9100 Kwh last year. Our bills have risen in the last 12 months. During this time we had a baby, so we've been running the washer and dryer a lot more than we had previously, and we had to use an electric radiator during the cold spell - although most of this would have been on the cheap rate.
The shower runs off the gas combi boiler.
Our hob (convection) and oven are both electric, 2 years old and supposedly efficient.
Can't think what we might be using that's chewing up all this electricity. I had assumed it was the washer and dryer, but switching more of their usage to the cheap rate doesnt seem to have had such a big impact.
The electric radiator is the reason your electric is so high and your gas so low. Why are you using an electric heater and not the gas central heating? The gas is so much cheaper than the electric. Just look at the unit rates on your bill.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It is not only analogue timeswitches that can be wrong. I have a radio telemeter that is 2 hours 10 minutes slow. My MIL has a radio telemeter where the 'night' period is between 08:45-15:45. It is important to check the actual time the meter switches.
Aside from watching the meter for when it changes over, is there another way of checking what time the timeswitch changes over?
Have recently switched from EDF to Marks & Spencer (Southern). EDF claimed that the cheap rate was 22.30-00.30 and 02.30-07.30, but M&S say that theirs is 00.30-07.30.
Is this possible? We're still using the same meter.0 -

Switching time for Economy 7 is nothing to do your supplier of electricity.
The timings are regional and refer to the 'old' area of responsibility of regional suppliers(supply area code)
So your timings will remain the same regardless of which firm supplies your electricity.0 -

Thanks Cardew. So from what you've said, I can take it that at least one, if not both, of EDF/M&S customer service's team is talking b***ox?!0 -
All the people on here are quite savvy about eco 7 but out in the real world they have no idea whatsoever about eco 7. Most dont even know they are on eco 7 tariffs with its horrendous day rate. they are totally baffled by their bills and dont even know what "kwhr" means and how it relates to costs. I blame the suppliers for their deliberate policy of non education of the public. They send enough rubbish letters out , surely some easy to fathom basics would start to educate the public0
