Direct Line dispute - over-valuing my car

InsideInsurance, they aren't complaining they have received too big a settlement, they are complaining that they were told any repair over 60% would write the car off.
Based on this and knowing their car was worth £1000-£1200 top wack & the repair quote was £1800 (ie 150% of car value) they assumed it would be written off so went and bought a replacement. When they learned it was going to be repaired they tried to get CiL before the repair started but were ignored.
As a result of this they now have two cars with all the hassle and cost that entails in terms of insurance and having to sell one of them.
I'd say they have been treated unfairly and a complaint to the insurer is justified.
Frankly, spending a grand let alone almost 2 grand on repairing a battered 10 year old 100k mile Mondeo is madness, something has gone wrong and the OP has suffered as a result0 -
That is exactly the crux of the matter. As well as being a legal requirement, the OP took out insurance, had an accident, and then his insurer dutifully repaired the car to its original state. Exactly what he paid them for. What compensation do you think he can reasonably fight for?0

The OP has been indemnified, exactly what the insurer is contractually obliged to do. How the insurer decides to indemnify them is their business
Maybe next time the OP won't make assumptions and act before the claim has been settled._________________________________________
