Oh this does include some (2) panel radiant heaters which we have one of upstairs to test in our spare room. We have manky storage heaters at the moment so some nice panel heaters which are less costly.

May be better to start again and "include" all the extras instead of adding them as the thread goes along;)

You may be better getting a quote just for the PV system alone and then adding your extras on after as you become more accustomed to using your generation, possibly with the exception of the immersun.
I pinned Bournemouth and surrounding areas on the PVGIS site and get a big difference for your estimated generation(3950-4120). You'd be looking at between £650ish and £700 for generated income, the rest, assuming 50% usage of the generation and a unit rate of say 15p gives a £300 saving on your leccy bill.

Bring the quote down to £6-7k and that's a nice healthy return from your investment.

Thank you. When a salesman visits your home you want to hear it from 'real people' who are not trying to sell you something. Thanks.

I do greatly hope we do get the return that he advised - anymore and I would be delighted!

He thinks we will get £250+ a qaurter.

This ones close to me, but you get the idea for costs

Again, shop around, even with £500 added for an immersun it would leave you a lot of change to buy your storage heaters yourself.

He thinks we will get £250+ a quarter.

Sorry but he's wrong, he's including your electric usage in that, you only see that in reduced bills, not in the FIT return. You'll get approx. £6-700 a year through the FIT and whatever you save in electric through reduced bills.

    Hi samtoby,

I would also consider something like these to solve your heating issue, you just need a power socket to fix them next to. Individual programming and thermostats are vital for controlling electric heating

Thanks Tunnel. I might get another quote.

The salesman suggested buying some diamant glass panel radiators. These are plug and play too and you can have a thermostat on them. These are supposed to be the best by his opinion but we have a tiny one of those you mention in the annex and it does do well once it gets going.

Are you saying from that - you think we will be generating quote a lot?

He did say something about Sheffield and the fact we will be better off in Bournemouth.

No. You won't generate a lot, you'll generate loads. If you were also south facing I might refuse to answer out of sheer petty jealousy. ;)

Basically you've got a great location, and a good orientation and no shading plus with high leccy demand PV is an excellent fit (or FiT!). Add in the Immersun (or other intelligent switch) and you get the cherry too.

The SAP figures are based on Sheffield as the University there has done all of the solar research and monitoring (I think), but SAP figures aren't much use as generation will be lower above Sheffield, and higher below, so it's a one size fits nobody solution - unless you live in or near Sheffield.

PVGIS is very, very good, and will give you an extremely accurate 'guess'.

    9k was price quoted

I'm not telepathic, just cynical. I assumed that having found out you were nearly all electric, the salesman hoped you would bite his hand off when you saw the income/savings, so tested the water with a medium to high quote, and I think I'm being polite with the word medium.

Instead you double checked first. :T

The salesman also said we should get a cheque from out provider for about £250 a quarter.

As tunnel said this isn't right. Have a look at section 1 on the FAQ thread.

You will get paid the FiT and export each quarter based on your actual generation, this will be higher in the summer half and lower in the winter half.

The leccy savings won't get paid to you as such, but you will pay less out. So whilst their numbers don't appear to be too far off, the way you get the money, and 'the when' is more than a little misleading.

Just keep asking and learning, you're onto a winner.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Thank you so much. I am so happy I asked the question here. I am not sure what heating is best. I was hoping in the winter to pump the house in the day of heating and turn it off on thermostat when it starts to get dark and then have it on using the electric first thing when we get up. We go to bed about 9pm but generally read / watch tv/ internet in bed until say 10:30 and we are early risers about half six. I am all over trying to work out how I will maximise what we get but fear we won't produce enough in the winter with how bleak it is. Mind you I might be totally wrong.
