xd memory card "write error"

Hi there, i have a fujifilm A340 camera, i purchased a 256mb xd card for it and it worked fine, the camera itself developed a fault while still under warranty so i sent it back for repair with the original card (16mb). Since it was fixed it will not take any pictures with the bigger card it only says "write error".
I thought maybe it had been scratched or something while out of the camera so i bought a new card but it is saying the same. I contacted fuji but they have quoted me £64.99 to fix!!!!!!!
Anyone have any ideas or does anyone know of a reputable camera repair shop on the west coast of Scotland?
